Running a marathon and climbing a mountain require preparation, flexibility and perseverance. Due to this, they are often used as metaphors for other areas of our lives – personal or work-related.
Jimmy Chin, a National Geographic photographer and mountaineer, puts it simply:
‘The two great risks I believe are risking too much, but the one I’m scared of is risking too little because you have this opportunity [in life] and you should make the most of it. I learned early on that unless you do that [see what happens if you throw yourself at something] you’ll never find out [what your potential is]. In a way that’s almost like the meaning of life, finding a purpose and pushing yourself in that space.’
