Long-term investing: The hare and the tortoise race

Written and accurate as at: 7 February 2018

At some point in your life you may have heard the phrase, “Slow and steady wins the race”. This was the intended meaning behind one of the most famous fables, ‘The Hare and The Tortoise’.

If you are unfamiliar with the fable, it centres on a race between the two animals. The hare having the clear advantage in terms of speed, underestimates the tortoise’s compensatory attributes…consistency and determination to reach the finish line.

In this video, we see the fable come to life. Not only can this be an important life lesson in general, but also a timely reminder of the importance of long-term investment fundamentals, for example, diversification, asset allocation, risk versus return, liquiditycompound interest and dollar cost averaging.
