When it comes to insurers, while their insurance offerings can often be quite similar to one another, there can frequently be marked differences in how they each assess an individual’s formal insurance application.

These differences can arise due to the specific underwriting guidelines they each have in comparison to one another. Given this, completing a pre-assessment can be an important consideration—particularly if you have a hazardous occupation or pastime, pre-existing medical condition, or family history of a medical condition.

In a nutshell, a pre-assessment is an informal way of finding out how insurers may view your formal insurance application, which can be beneficial when:

  • making informed decisions on which insurer (and their offering) may be appropriate to you, and
  • managing expectations around potential outcomes of a formal insurance application.
