Talking about death while you’re still healthy

In building upon a recent article, Invalid wills, passing away intestate, and intestacy rules – Part 2, we share a candid, heartfelt TED Talk by Michelle Knox, in which she talks about a subject that can be difficult to discuss:

  • Do you have wishes when you pass away?
  • Do you know how you would like to be remembered?

In the TED Talk, Knox asks us to reflect on our core values around passing away and share them with our loved ones—so they can make informed decisions and honour our legacies.

In addition, Knox touches on the importance of having a valid Will in place prior to our passing, and consideration around other estate planning areas, such as advanced care directives and wealth transference.

Life would be a lot easier to live if we talked about death now,” Knox says. “We need to discuss these issues when we are fit and healthy so we can take the emotion out of itand then we can learn not just what is important, but why it’s important.”
