Home and contents insurance exercise

It’s a good idea to write down and photograph items you have insured and keep a copy of this list away from your residence. You may wish to specify items separately to your insurer if they’re worth more than the standard amount stated in the policy.

Here is a quick exercise.

Get out your contents or home & contents insurance statement.

Have a look at how much your home is insured for. Does this reflect the current cost to rebuild your home?

Have a look at how much your contents are insured for. Does this reflect their replacement value?

Do you have any specific items listed? Do you want to list any particularly valuable items, such as jewellery and antiques?

It may be a useful exercise to go from room to room and write down each item (photograph key items) and record their replacement value.
