According to the ABS, a couple family is two people in a couple relationship who both usually reside in the same household, with or without dependants (this includes children under 15 and dependent students aged 15-24 years). In June 2020*, there were roughly 6.1 million Australian couple families, and of these, there were approximately:

  • 2.6 million Australian couple families with dependants and the proportion in which one or both partners were employed was 92.1%.
  • 3.5 million Australian couple families without dependants and the proportion in which one or both partners were employed was 64.1%.

In this insightful TED Talk, Jennifer Petriglieri offers guidance on how working couples can best support each other, now and in the future, regarding their individual and collective aspirations (personal or work-related).
