Investing via an investment platform

An investment platform is a vehicle to consolidate and administer your investments.

There are various types of investment administration platforms. The most commonly used investment platforms are in superannuation although there are also non-superannuation platforms widely available.

Unless you are running your own self-managed super fund, your super will most likely be administered through a platform. Refer to the Superannuation module for more on superannuation options.

The more common types of investment platforms are master trusts and wrap accounts. An investment platform operates as shown opposite.

The diagram shows the investment platform is the central hub for investment into either managed funds, direct shares or both.

Many financial advisers use this method of investment for their clients.
