Aged Care

Home Care Package

Eligibility

Home care packages are designed for:

  • older persons who need coordinated services to help them stay in their home
  • younger persons with a disability, dementia or other special care needs that are not met through other specialist services.

Whilst there are no minimum age requirements to be eligible for the Home Care Package, the support is not intended for visitors to Australia or people requiring temporary or short-term care. You will need to undergo an assessment. Unlike the Commonwealth Home Support Program, this assessment is conducted by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) or the Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) if you reside in Victoria.

ACAT (or ACAS) assess your eligibility and determine a specific level of care relevant to your needs. There are four designated levels of care that you may be categorised into:

  • Home Care Level 1, support for individuals with basic-level care needs
  • Home Care Level 2, support for individuals with low-level care needs
  • Home Care Level 3, support for individuals with intermediate-level care needs
  • Home Care Level 4, support for individuals with high-level care needs.
