To find out your income-tested care fee, you may wish to arrange a formal income assessment by the Department of Human Services after you have been assessed by ACAT (or ACAS). However, a formal income assessment is not required if you are already receiving social security income support payments as the Department of Human Services will already have your financial information.
It’s important to note that if you are not receiving social security income support payments and you make the decision to not have a formal income assessment, you can be asked to pay the maximum fee attributable to the Home Care Package.
Please note: On the 1 July 2014, the costs of Home Care Packages changed to make the aged care system more sustainable and affordable. If you received a Home Care Package prior to 1 July 2014, the new fee arrangements will not apply to you. However, if you stop receiving a Home Care Package for more than 28 days, the new fee arrangement will apply if you then commence a new Home Care Package.
