Residential Aged Care

Family Home Considerations

Keeping your home (and not rent out)
Upon entering a residential aged care facility, depending on your circumstances, there are specific rules governing the assessment of a family home that is retained (and not rented out).

For example, there are certain scenarios in which the family home is not counted as an asset, where a person that still resides in the family home is:

  • Your spouse.
  • A dependent child (younger than 16 years of age).
  • A dependent full-time student (younger than 25 years of age), not receiving a Government income support payment.
