Aged Care

Residential Aged Care

Family Home Considerations

  • A close relative (i.e. your parent, sister, brother, child or grandchild), eligible for a Government income support payment is residing in the residence and has done so for five years or more.
  • A carer, eligible for a Government income support payment, is residing in the residence and has done so for two years or more.

However, the family home may no longer be exempt, if the person residing decides to vacate.

In addition, the family home is also exempt from the Age Pension assets test for two years from the date that you enter a residential aged care facility.
